THE GIDDY GOAT STORY

In January 2025, Riseley Cafe Community Interest Company took over The Giddy Goat Coffee Shop to ensure it remained a vibrant, welcoming hub for the local community. From this, The Giddy Goat Community Cafe was born — a place where everyone can gather, connect, and enjoy great coffee.

The name “Giddy Goat” was originally inspired by the legendary origins of coffee. As the story goes:
In 11th Century Ethiopia, a goat herder named Khaldi noticed his goats were eating berries causing such extra energy they wouldn’t sleep at night. Kaldi reported his findings to a local abbot who made a drink with the berries which kept him awake all night, helping him through his long hours of evening prayer. Word soon spread and by the 15th Century coffee was being grown all over the Arabian Peninsula.

Fast-forward to today — our coffee is roasted locally by a small company in Ampthill, Wooden Hill Coffee Roasters, who source and prepare it with care before delivering it fresh to our cafe. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
